We are proud to announce our efforts towards building Seawolf III. Our team has spent the past few months in and out of the lab gearing toward its completion. It will be lighter and more efficient than Seawolf II, and may even feature a new hull. The biggest change we're making is eliminating the PC/104 from the craft. A PC/104 is essentially a PC integrated in one small package. A PC is a very powerful package; but we did not need all of that processing power (or the OS for that matter!). We encountered frequent battery life and heat issues, as well as operating system related problems. By stipping out the PC, its bulky power supply and mechanical hard drive, and replacing it with microcontrollers and FPGAs, we will reduce the overall weight, efficiency and power consumption of the system. The final design is still up in the air- At this point, who knows what other exciting changes will take place. Stay tuned to find out more!
